The Main Problems and Characteristics of a Multi-cultural Clients Perceived by the Multi-cultural Experts

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the main problems and characteristics of a multi-cultural clients and to suggest efficient counseling strategies for counselors. For these reasons, 11 experts participated in focus-groups interview and two doctors and one master analyzed the data by the qualitative research method suggested by Morgan and Scannell. The focus-group interview was suitable for this study because the method could give information close to opinions of on-site experts. In the main problems of multi-cultural clients, 4 categories, 11 sub-categories, and 29 definitions were identified. Each four categories were family conflicts, child support, communication and problems of social adjustment. In the characteristics of multi-cultural counseling characteristics, 3 categories, 6 sub-categories, and 19 definitions were identified. Three categories were clients¡¯ counseling resources, attitude toward experts, attitude toward counseling. At last, implications, practical uses, and suggestions for future researches were also discussed in this study.
